BERLIN: Audi plans to bring only electric-powered vehicles onto the market from 2026, chief executive Markus Duesmann told the Wirtschaftswoche weekly in an interview published on Thursday.

Audi's entire offering will be exclusively electric-powered long before 2035, when the European Union plans to effectively ban the sale of combustion engine cars, Duesmann added.

In 2021, Audi doubled its product portfolio of all-electric models, bringing more electric cars to market than combustion engines for the first time. With the Audi e-tron GT quattro, Audi RS e-tron GT, and the first all-electric models in the compact segment, the Audi Q4 e-tron and Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, Audi’s electric portfolio has grown by four more models.

The company has plans to offer more than 20 all-electric models by 2026.

Audi has said before that it would spend around 18 billion euros on electrification and hybridization between 2022 and 2026, based on the planning round approved at the end of 2021.

With total investments of around 37 billion euros, this means that nearly half of its outlays are earmarked for the development of future vehicle projects.
