INGOLSTADT: Audi says the latest Modular Infotainment Toolkit (MIB 3) system will be found in its vehicles headed for the US in the second half of this year.

The new system is touted to be faster, richer and more immersive for users than the previous modular infotainment platform II (MIB II).

Equipped with a new chipset, the new system is said to be up to 10 times faster than previous Audi hardware and will provide customers with a number of new features which includes SiriusXM with 360L and hybrid digital radio and Function on Demand.

For the A4 and A5 models, the MIB 3 hardware will allow customers to purchase in-vehicle navigation for vehicles not optioned with it from the factory.

Additionally, the new Audi Connect Generation 3 service introduces basic unlimited Wi-Fi included in Audi connect Prime with connectivity for up to eight devices.

The models expected to receive the latest MIB 3 features include the A4, A5, A6, A7, A8, Q3, Q5, Q7 and Q8 with other models to be announced at a later date.

For the US, the MIB 3's wireless provider for in-vehicle functions will be handled by Verizon and will have an LTE Advanced Pro modem that's rated for up to 1 Gbps download speed as well as a Wi-Fi, HD voice communication and a new Linux-based operating system.

For applications, the system will possess SiriusXM with 360L, Hybrid digital radio, myAudi app digital storefront experience with myAudi marketplace, Function on Demand and Navigation for the time being.

There will be monthly map updates compared to quarterly updates with MIB 2+ (when equipped with available navigation) along with the inclusion of Amazon Alexa Auto - available in more models, Expanded Integrated Toll Module availability (ITM).

The ITM, first introduced in the e-tron and Q7 and is being added to the Q5, Q8, A4, A5, A6, A7 and A8, is a rearview mirror-based toll payment solution developed by Gentex to provide convenient access to select toll road services in the US while eliminating windscreen clutter and helping to manage multiple toll accounts.

Drivers are able to adjust module settings through the vehicle’s MMI – including turning the ITM on/off - making the German brand the first automaker to implement this technology into production vehicles.
