The German automaker says that its new edition will be going into production from September onwards and will be applied to the 8 Series' other body styles that include the convertible (G14) and four-door Gran Coupé (G16) with no mention of "limit" on production numbers and will have it slapped with the M sports package as standard for all.
Also not mentioned are any performance gains or mechanical changes - making the Golden Thunder Edition purely an aesthetic (interior and exterior) thing.
With the help of the company's personalisation arm - BMW Individual, the 8 Series has taken on the character of a custom-built vehicle dressed in Sapphire Black metallic or Frozen Black metallic that's matched by a high gloss black applied to the M sports brake callipers.
A stylish contrast is then achieved with the use of gold applied to certain sections of the 8 Series' lines that run from the front apron to the side skirts and on into the rear apron.
Other features finished in gold are its exterior mirror caps, M rear spoiler (exclusively available for the BMW 8 Series Coupé) and the 20-inch M light-alloy wheels in double-spoke design.
Inside, the cabin is fitted by BMW Individual's black Merino leather trim with the “Edition Golden Thunder” inscription embroidered into the front headrests.
The roof lining employs Alcantara Anthracite for the Coupé and Gran Coupé body styles before getting accented by Aluminium Mesh Effect Gold.
Finally, the centre console's shimmering surface gets fitted with an edition emblem while certain controls are coated by a CraftedClarity glass application for added protection and durability which includes the controls of the Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System.
