MUNICH: Just weeks after its premiere in the US, BMW's Z4 sports car is already getting four new engines, the Bavarian maker announced ahead of its trip to the Paris Motor Show.
Alongside the two-seater M40i, which is powered by a 3-litre inline 6-cylinder engine with 340hp, BMW says there'll also be Z4 30i, as well as a Z4 20i, both 2.0 litre four-pot engines with 258hp and 197hp respectively.
BMW had earlier announced that it was finally bringing back its Z4 sports car after a two year-hiatus, with the roadster seemingly undergoing a serious diet while it was away.
The new generation of the convertible is said to be almost 50kg lighter than its previous model, largely due to a redesigned roof.
A conventional soft top replaces the retractable hardtop that had been a feature on the Z4 for the past two generations, while narrow LED headlights and a greatly reduced interior space also come with the modified design.
On top of that, a head-up display, which projects information such as speed onto the windscreen, is available in the Z4 - a first for the roadster vehicle market.
The two-seater Z4 M40i, which is powered by a 3-litre inline 6-cylinder engine with 340hp, goes from 0-100kph in 4.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250kph. BMW puts fuel consumption at 7.1 litres and CO2 emissions at 162 g/km.
Even the less powerful 30i and 20i models can sprint to 100kph in 6.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 240kph.
The BMW Z4 M40i is expected to go on sale in spring 2019, retailing for 70,000 euros (RM339,000).
