BMW eager to showcase new 7 Series with 2nd-gen hybrid tech and exotic M850i Night Sky

MUNICH: It's been a few weeks since BMW unveiled its latest fourth-generation 7-Series to the world, but next month will be its physical debut to the world at the upcoming 89th Geneva International Motor Show (2019).

To recap there will be three variants of the updated & Series, namely the 745e, 745Le and 745Le xDrive with a total system output of 394hp - allowing it to sprint from 0-100kph in 5.3 seconds or less (depending on variant).

The German carmaker also says that its electric range capable of achieving up to 58km with an electric power consumption of up to 16.3kWh per 100km.

Fuel consumption can reach a lowly 2.1 litres per 100km with CO2 emissions from the combustion engine emitting between 48 to 52 grams per kilometre.

Size-wise, the updated 7 now stands 50mm taller and features a 40%-larger front kidney grille and fitted with slimmer headlights.

The bonnet and front apron also sport a new look, while the its flanks sport new upright positioned Air Breathers and trim strips that extend aft-ward before ending with a restyled rear apron and a slender light strip below the chrome to bar to link the rear slimmer lights.



Inside, the exclusive Nappa leather trim with extended quilting (new on the options list) and new interior trim strips refreshes the interior.

Other changes include the rearranged buttons on the multifunction steering wheel and the repositioned wireless charging tray as well as an optional Ambient highlight with a new finish.

The screen grouping formed by the instrument cluster and Control Display now comes with the software that features the BMW Operating System 7.0, as does the BMW Touch Command control unit for the rear.

The wealth of functions provided by the standard and optional driver assistance systems for the new BMW 7 Series now extends to include the Reversing Assistant.

The further developed engine line-up for the 7 Series comprises of a V12 now fitted with a gasoline particulate filter, a new eight-cylinder petrol engine and three six-cylinder in-line diesel units.

The three plug-in hybrid models in the new BMW 7 Series portfolio offers increased drive power and greater electric range with all model variants complying with the requirements of the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard.

And, of course, the M850i Night Sky - a one-off version of the luxury sports car, that features controls made from meteoritic material with an extra-terrestrial surface patterns, illuminated constellations on the centre console and 3D-printed components too.
