BMW Group Malaysia begins exporting MINI Countryman to Thailand

CYBERJAYA: BMW Group Malaysia today delivered the first units of the recently unveiled MINI Countryman for its export programme to Thailand. The variants exported to Thailand from its Kedah plant are the Cooper S Countryman and the Cooper S Countryman Hightrim.

The Cooper S Countryman and Cooper S Countryman Hightrim are to be sold in Thailand at THB 2,299,000 (RM259,557) and THB2,499,000 (RM 282,137) (VAT included with MSI Standard Package) respectively

Both variants use a 4-cylinder, 2-litre petrol engine producing up to 192hp and reaches a maximum torque of 280Nm at 1,350 - 4,600 rpm. Power to the front axle is via an 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission.

The Cooper S Countryman Hightrim enhances the sporty and classical look of the standard Countryman with Chrome Line highlights across the exterior and interior to add a luxurious feel.

It is upgraded with a rear-view camera combined with Parking Assistant system.The interior is decked out in MINI Yours Piano Black Illuminated style with colourful ambient glows.

Built in is a Head-Up display, Harman Kardon hi-fi sound system, an 8.8-inch touchscreen in the central instrument cluster, which is equipped with MINI Connected.

“The Inokom Corporation plant in Kulim, Kedah, which is a partnership between Sime Darby Bhd and BMW Group Malaysia,are among 30 production sites in 14 countries around the world for the BMW Group and is an important touchpoint for us in the South-East Asian region,” said BMW Group Malaysia managing director and CEO Harald Hoelzl.

He said that being able to support and serve the markets in the region was a major milestone. “We have been developing our local assembly capabilities here with Sime Darby and our network of local suppliers with the ambition to support the region and today, we have taken an important step forward.”

BMW's regional export programme is a result of the Asean Trade in Goods Agreement (Atiga). Atiga promotes the intra-Asean trade and ensures the free flow of goods within the bloc. Atiga has enabled the BMW Group to use its plants in Asean efficiently and flexibly to match its production to market demands locally and for export.
