BMW M2 (F22) Competition goes racing

By CARSIFU | 1 August 2019

MUNICH: BMW M Motorsport recently revealed its future plans for customer racing by announcing a new entry-level model for grassroots motorsport and club racing.

Using the BMW M2 Competition (F22) as a base, the car will make its race debut on Aug 3 at the VLN Endurance Championship in Nürburgring, Germany.

Focus was placed on the 'simple handling for everyone' – whilst ensuring the highest possible technical quality and maximum safety so that the race car can be used in many different fields of motorsport.

The new race car will be helmed by BMW Motorsport's Junior Beitske Visser from the Netherlands and Jörg Weidinger from Germany - a test and development engineer at BMW M GmbH and a successful BMW Sports Trophy competitor for many years.

The car will be run by BMW Motorsport and will sport a special camouflage livery in the six-hour race as another test to further prepare it with customer deliveries scheduled for the second quarter of 2020.

The race on the Nordschleife is the next punishing step in its test phase after completing further tests at Miramas, France and Portimão, Portugal.

There will be a Racing and a Clubsport variant of the new entry-level model for motor racing that targets amateur racing drivers as compared to the outgoing M240i Racing.

A Permit 'B' version of the car is planned for use on the Nordschleife within the VLN.
