NEW YORK: BMW teamed up with Uber to let app users in the United States experience the new 7 Series through a test-drive or a chauffeured ride experiences ahead of the vehicle’s US retail launch on Oct 24.

The one-day promotion on Monday started at noon and let Uber users in New York, Miami, Los Angeles, and Chicago, receive a complimentary ride from a BMW frontline employee to a destination of their choice in the new BMW flagship.

Prospective 7 Series customers in those markets had test-drove the car on-demand through the Uber app on Oct 17-18.

BMW said the 7 Series represented cutting-edge technology and the future in automotive luxury. It is setting a new benchmark in lightweight design, driving dynamics, comfort, intelligent connectivity and intuitive operation. The TwinPower Turbo engine is able to offer an exhilarating driving experience, going from 0-100kph in 4.3 seconds. It will sell in the United States for US$82,295 (around RM350,000).

"We couldn't think of a better way to celebrate the launch of the BMW 7 Series than by offering Uber riders the unique chance to upgrade their ride and are thrilled to partner with BMW on this first-of-a-kind experience," said Amy Friedlander Hoffman of Uber.

No doubt the bright idea will be copied in other countries soon.
