BMW takes wraps off M8 Gran Coupe and M8 Competition Gran Coupe

MUNICH: BMW M GmbH has unveiled the M8 Gran Coupe and M8 Competition Gran Coupe.

The high-revving 4.4-litre V8 M TwinPower Turbo engine of both variants produces 750Nm of torque, while the M8 Competition Gran Coupe (henceforth referred to as M8 Comp GC) has 25 horses more than the M8 Gran Coupe at 625hp.

The M8 Competition Gran Coupe goes from 0 to 100kph in 3.2 seconds, 0.1s faster than the M8 Gran Coupe.

Both cars will make their world premiere at the Los Angeles Auto Show 2019 later this month. They are expected to go on sale in January 2020, with the M8 Gran Coupe First Edition being offered as an exclusive launch model from April 2020.

Cooling and oil supply systems are designed for track use.

Sports exhaust system with electronically controlled flaps delivers stirring engine soundtrack.

The cars come with eight-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic and M xDrive all-wheel-drive system linked with the Active M Differential.

There is a choice of three drive modes: 4WD, 4WD Sport and 2WD with pure rear-wheel drive and deactivated driving stability control.

The M8 Comp GC has a wheelbase 200mm longer than two-door M8 counterpart, dynamically flowing roofline, large air intakes, BMW kidney grille with double bars, M gills on the side panels, rear spoiler and rear apron with diffuser elements and twin exhaust tailpipes.

Its body has been lightened and rigidity optimised, complemented by a carbon-fibre roof, a low centre of gravity, wide tracks, and precisely tuned for aerodynamic balance.

The pedal feel has two settings to choose from: comfort focused or even more direct.

New Setup button gives direct access to the settings for the engine, dampers, steering, M xDrive and braking system. Two driver-composed overall setup options can be selected via M buttons on the steering wheel.

There is a new M Mode for individual configuration of driver assistance system interventions and instrument cluster / Head-Up Display screens.

The M8 Comp GC driver can select from ROAD, SPORT and TRACK settings.

Exclusive standard equipment includes BMW Laserlight, M sports seats, M-specific BMW Head-Up Display, BMW Live Cockpit Professional with navigation system and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant, Driving Assistant and Parking Assistant.
