Boon Siew Honda the first local manufacturer to have EEV bikes

GEORGE TOWN: Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd has announced that its four motorcycle models have been certified as Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEV), making it the first motorcycle maker to have EEV-certified models.

They are EX5 Fi (pic), Future Fi, Wave Dash (Fi) and Wave Alpha qualify as EEVs. Among them, three models, EX5 Fi, Future Fi and Wave Dash, consume 1.8 litres of petrol per 100km, which is 18% better than the EEV’s regulation benchmark.

The certification from the Road Transport Department took effect from Aug 1  The Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) is defined as a vehicle that meets the carbon emissions and fuel consumption standards issued by the Malaysian Automotive Institute. For motorcycles with engines between 101cc and 150cc capacities, the EEV certificate will be granted to a model that consumes less than 2.2 litres of petrol per 100km.

While the Government aims to make 85% of total vehicle production to be EEVs by 2020, 83% of Boon Siew Honda’s production already qualify as EEVs.
