KUALA LUMPUR: Auto makers and parts suppliers are open to the government push for even more local content in making cars.

Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) deputy CEO Arham Abdul Rahman said industry players were receptive to the plan.

"The Government has always considered localisation as one of the important elements to further develop the local automotive industry. We are pleased to gather a remarkable representation across the automotive industry including both the OEMs and vendors," he said at a Mida event on automotive localisation here today.

Malaysian Automotive Association president Datuk Aishah Ahmad said the association supported the move to raise local content in car production that would pave the way to more competitive and affordable products.
