KUALA LUMPUR: Vehicles in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya will use new registration numbers starting with the letters "V" and "F" respectively next month.
Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi said the registration number would be followed by a number from 1 to 9999.
Currently, the Federal Territory of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur use a system where the registration number starts with letters followed by numbers and then letters.
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) would implement the "F" registration numbers first in June for Putrajaya before introducing the "V" numbers for Kuala Lumpur, Aziz told reporters at the Parliament lobby here today.
He said the authorities wanted to simplify the car registration system as the current practice was unwieldy to read and also to attract bidding for numberss from motorists who would otherwise bid for "more atractive" numbers from other states.
