KUALA LUMPUR: Vehicle sales jumped 153% in September from August due to the full month of restored business operations nationwide following the relaxation of movement restrictions, the industry body said.

The Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) said today total industry volume (TIV) for September rose to 44,275 from 17,500 units in August.

However, the September TIV was lower compared with 57,758 a year ago.

Year-to-date, TIV sales volume for September 2021 was at 318,874 units compared with 344,019 units in the previous corresponding period year.

MAA said shortage of computer chips had affected sales of certain makes which faced some cancellation of orders due to low consumers' sentiment.

As for the outlook of October, MAA expects sales will be better than September as business operations have been restored nationwide.

It also pointed out companies were ramping up production and deliveries of vehicles.
