KUALA LUMPUR: Lady Luck was just not on the side of a car thief, who only got to drive his stolen prize for a few seconds, before being hit by another car.

With the owner of the car that he had stolen in hot pursuit behind him after the crash, the 23-year-old thief ran as fast as he could only to break his right leg after he fell into a 3m drain along Jalan Mewah Utara.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Khairuldin Saad said the car owner and his wife had parked at the Pandan Mewah McDonald’s at about 10.20am on Sunday and went in for breakfast.

About half an hour later, the 35-year-old IT technician came out to get his car but found it missing from the parking spot.

“The victim then saw the suspect, a salesman, driving his Daihatsu Charade away towards Jalan Pandan Utama. He didn’t make it far though.

“The suspect drove for about 50m before he was hit by a Toyota. The victim said he saw the suspect getting out of the wrecked car and he gave chase,” said ACP Khairuldin.

The suspect was later arrested by a Mobile Patrol Vehicle unit and taken to the Ampang Hospital for treatment.

He is expected to be remanded today and is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft.
