FRANKFURT: CarSifu has arrived in Germany today for the 67th Frankfurt Motor Show.

We will be covering Mercedes-Benz's launch of several models and concepts, with the highlight being its Project One hypercar, created to celebrate 50 years of AMG.

The trade fair visit will end with a drive of the AMG GT series of cars to and at the Bilster Berg Drive Resort in  Bad Driburg, 270km north of here.

Mercedes-Benz is exhibiting around 100 vehicles at the Frankfurt show, among them several world premières of concept cars.

While there are more details known of the various models to be showcased, Mercedes-Benz is keeping a tight lid on Project One until the press reveal on Sept 11.

The Project One with Formula 1 hybrid drive technology is a near-series study of a hypercar and points the way to AMG's "Future of Driving Performance."

What is known is that it uses a high revving turbocharged 1.6-litre engine with 4 electric motors, resulting in a top speed of over 350kph. The engine itself is capable of making over 1,000hp.

In recent weeks, Mercedes-Benz has teased and released details on the electric smart showcar and compact electric EQ concept, the all-new X-Class pick-up truck and the GLC F‑CELL concept. More traditional debuts will include the updated S-Class Coupé and S‑Class Cabriolet in standard and AMG versions.

Notable absentees at the 2017 show are Tesla, Nissan, Peugeot, Fiat, Volvo, Jeep, Mitsubishi and Infiniti.

German Association of the Automotive Industry president Matthias Wissmann said 1,000 exhibitors from 39 countries will be at the show, setting a new record: 363 innovations including 228 world premieres. The number of European premieres has more than doubled with a focus on digitisation, urban mobility and electric mobility, he said, adding that IT and technology firms will also be present.

The Frankfurt show opens to the public from Sept 16-24, with Sept 12-13 being press days and the following two days for trade visitors.
