KUALA LUMPUR: Carsome, Southeast Asia’s largest online used car trading platform, is celebrating the arrival of its 100,000th used car seller in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The record milestone comes after five years of continued struggles to help provide a solution to address the local used car market that's been blemished by distrust.

Carsome co-founder and group CEO Eric Cheng shared that their milestone was achieved thanks to their continued endeavours in restoring that trust.

"We started building trust by establishing a transparent and hassle-free used car-selling process," said Cheng.

He added that the company will now concentrate on further developing their new method of buying used cars within the region - particularly Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand.

The new aspiration was recently launched three months ago in Malaysia.

"With (our) customers’ continued support and confidence in our quality service, we are committed to continuously building Carsome into the most trusted brand. This will ensure that our customers continue enjoying the best experience, be it car-buying or car-selling,” added Cheng.

The company has managed to grow from a team of five employees to a 1,000-strong workforce spread across more than 50 cities in five countries.

This year, the company recently launched CARpartner and CARdealer (previously known as CarsomeGO) mobile apps to help improve process and workflow efficiencies.

The CARpartner app allows the company's partners to make car inspection appointments, check appointment statuses and receive instant car value estimates.

As for CARdealer, this app allows local used car dealers in Indonesia to browse and purchase used vehicles on-the-go.

According to Cheng, the company will continue to invest in the digitalization and upgrading of its products to enhance the speed and convenience of car transactions.

Additionally, it will also be venturing into the technical education sector in the coming months with an aspiration to upskill the technical workforce through accreditation.

"I am so proud that more than 100,000 customers in Southeast Asia have entrusted us in selling their cars; we are definitely looking forward to our one-millionth seller,” said Cheng.

The company now looks to open more retail centres across the region, bringing the new way of buying and selling cars in the automotive industry to more cities in Southeast Asia.
