SHANGHAI: Honda is developing technology that will enable the driver to operate various devices through gestures without lifting their hands from the steering wheel.

The technology leverages on multiple sensors that detect human body poses in real time, allowing the onboard computer to crunch the real-time 3D data and produce the desired effects.

Though still in experimental stage, such advanced technology is among various exhibits and services Honda will be showcasing at CES ASIA 2018 here from June 13-15.

At the tech-focused show, Honda will also be promoting new technologies it is working with startups around the world.

Among them are ScentRealm, a technology to atomise scents that match driving scenes inside the cabin; and WayRay which uses augmented reality display navigation information in the sight of the driver without using special devices such as AR glasses/goggles.

Honda will also conduct demonstrations at its booth of the Honda Walking Assist Device, an assistive device for use in the training and rehabilitation of walking.

The device, on sale since 2015, has also been certified for use in EU countries.
