BEIJING: The Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster may have made its debut in China, but the thing is...it's been detuned some.

Firstly, the displacement and engine is being maintained as a 2.0-litre turbocharged flat-four, but the output levels have decreased from 300 to 250hp and 310Nm of torque.

With a double-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK) gearbox, the Boxster and Cayman can sprint to 100kph from standstill in about 5.6 seconds and onwards to a top speed of 260kph.

If it gets fitted with a Sport Chrono package, the sprint time comes down to 5.4 seconds.

What it all means is that with 50hp less, the car needs an additional 0.7 seconds to reach 100kph from standstill and is also 15kph slower than its non-detuned brethrens.

With the 718's kerb weight at 1,365kg, the dip in power has allowed its fuel consumption to go up from 9 to 10.4 litres per 100km, as well as its CO2 emissions by about 10 grams to 174g/km.

The 718 Cayman is currently priced from 588,000 yuan (RM360,000) and the 718 Boxster from 598,000 yuan.
