KAJANG: A social media post has gone viral claiming that the owner of a red Mazda6 managed to track down a cloned car with the same number plate here in Bangi, Selangor.

However, the police say that checks revealed that the “cloned” car - also a red Mazda6 - was reported stolen.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said a police team from the Bandar Baru Bangi police station was dispatched to Section 1, Bandar Baru Bangi at around 6.30pm on Sunday.

"We initially received information about a cloned vehicle there and sent a team to investigate. When our personnel arrived at the scene, they found a locked red Mazda parked in a public parking spot," he said in a statement today.

He said checks showed that the car was using a fake licence plate.

"Further checks revealed that the vehicle had been reported missing in Beserah, Pahang. We have brought the vehicle back to the Bandar Baru Bangi police station for further investigations," he said.

The facebook page Shidie Art Pelukis Rakyat had posted three photos of two identical Mazda vehicles bearing the same licence plate, in a post that claimed that the original owner from Johor, was fed up of receiving summonses for offences at places he had never been to before.

He eventually managed to track down the “cloned” vehicle to Bangi.

ACP Mohd Zaid also advised the public with any information on crime activities to contact and cooperate with the police.
