PETALING JAYA: Be more understanding of others on the road and respect their rights was the advice given by Transport Minister Anthony Loke to motorists in his Hari Raya Aidifitri message.

"I hope all motorists arrive at their destinations in great happiness.

"Drive safely and respect the rights of other road-users.

"If all of us compromise with one another when driving and follow the traffic laws and regulations, I believe road accidents can be reduced, resulting in less fatal accidents," Loke said in the 51-second Hari Raya Aidifitri greeting uploaded on his Facebook page today.

He also urged motorists to value life and family.

"May your return home be celebrated with happiness.

"You have the power to change. Drive safe and arrive safely," he added.

Based on police figures, 90 people have died in road accidents as of Monday (June 3) in the five days since the start of 15th Op Selamat on May 29.

Police corporate communication chief Datuk Asmawati Ahamd said 85 fatal road accidents were recorded out of a total of 8,454 accidents during the five-day period.
