Cop charged with accepting bribe to cover up fatal car accident

JOHOR BARU: A police inspector was charged at a Sessions Court here with asking for and accepting a bribe of RM3,000 to cover up a car accident that resulted in a fatality.

The accused Mohd Shulul Azmi Shuaibon, 32, pleaded not guilty to the charge read before Sessions judge Mohamad Haldar Abdul Aziz on Monday.

He was charged with asking for the amount of RM3,500 from a man who was involved in an accident that caused the death of a victim at around 5.25pm January 13, 2014 as an inducement not to bring the case to court.

On the second charge, Mohd Shulul was accused of accepting RM3,000 from the same man at around 7pm on January 15, 2014.

Judge Mohamad Haldar set May 11 for next mention.
