KUCHING: Sarawak police will look for 400 traffic offenders with three or more outstanding warrants of arrest when Ops Warta gets under way next week.

State traffic officer-in-charge DSP Alexson Naga Chabu said the multiple offenders were among 6,000 or so individuals with outstanding arrest warrants dating back to 2013.

“We have the full list of offenders and it has been distributed to all district traffic chiefs for action.

Of the 6,000 offenders, about 50% are in Kuching and the rest are in other districts,” he told a press conference at the state police headquarters yesterday.

DSP Alexson said the warrants of arrest were issued against those who failed to settle their summonses after three months.

“We are giving two weeks from Monday for people to check and settle their summonses. After this period, we will carry out operations to trace the offenders and bring them to court.

“We will set up roadblocks and go to their premises.

“There will be no more excuse for them,” he said.

He called on the offenders to come forward and settle their outstanding summonses before action was taken against them.

He also advised the public to check if they had any outstanding summonses and to pay up as quickly as possible.

Motorists can check for summonses online via www.rmp.gov.my, www.rilek.com.my or www.myeg.com.my or at the nearest police station.

To facilitate payment, the opening hours of traffic counters in Kuching, Sibu, Miri, Bintulu, Sarikei, Limbang and other large districts will be extended until 10pm daily.

Traffic counters in smaller districts like Song and Belaga will open daily until 5pm.
