Could the new BMW Z4 be bound for Pebble Beach reveal?

NEW YORK: BMW is keeping the media on tenterhooks with a mysterious invite to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, California, on Aug 23, to witness the world premiere of an unnamed model.

"The identity of the world premiere model will be revealed closer to the time of the press conference," it said in a statement on Wednesday. "Suffice to say this new model will certainly be an emotional addition to the BMW range."

We can hazard a guess and it would be the Z4 roadster, a model that's as emotive as its bodystyle and performance suggest. The Z4 is being co-developed with Toyota,  which aims to revive the Supra sports car through the partnership.

Last month, we wrote about the Z4 undergoing the last trials in France, so we all know the launch of the production series is near. Already some members of the Western media had tried out the pre-production car in the south of France. One pundit said the new Z4 promises a big jump in performance compared to the previous E89 model.

The Z4 will come in 4- and 6-cylinder engine variants, with the sportiest being the Z4 M40i. It will get a new, more powerful in-line 6-cylinder engine, a lowered sports suspension with electronically controlled dampers, a newly developed front axle, M light alloy wheels with mixed tyres, an M sports brake system and an electronically controlled lock in the rear axle differential.

Aside from the launch of the unnamed model at the concours, BMW will also present the North American premiere of the all new M850i Coupe and the North American premiere of the BMW Concept M8 Gran Coupe first shown at the Geneva Auto Show in May 2018.
