PETALING JAYA: Fuel prices will remain the same for the following week.

The Finance Ministry said the prices of RON97 and RON95 petrol and diesel remained at RM2.64 per litre, RM2.08 per litre, and RM2.18 per litre respectively beginning Saturday (Dec 14) until Dec 20.

"Based on the calculation under the Automatic Pricing Mechanism (APM), the retail prices for both RON95 and diesel should be RM2.34 per litre and RM2.32 per litre respectively," it said in a statement on Friday (Dec 13).

It added that the estimated subsidy to be borne by the government between Dec 14 and Dec 20 would be about RM111.44mil.

Starting next year, the RON95 petrol price will be floated in stages from Jan 1 as the subsidy is removed for most Malaysians. Only 8 million Malaysian motorists in the lower income and middle income groups will continue to enjoy subsidised RON95 petrol under a targeted subsidy programme.
