Delta adds Porsche panache to its private jet service

CINCINNATI: For those who feel travelling by private jet alone isn't already a significantly luxurious experience, Delta is adding a trip in a Porsche to its service

Now anyone taking a Delta private jet flight within the US can jump in the back of a Cayenne or Panamera when they touch down and be driven to the main terminal and a connecting flight.

"Imagine traveling from Louisville to New York via private jet to connect with a commercial flight to Munich, Germany on Delta Air Lines," said David Sneed, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Delta Private Jets.

"You will be picked up in a Porsche from the fixed-base operator and transported to the main airport where you will be escorted and expedited through security by Delta agents to your connecting flight, while your luggage is taken care of for you."

Delta's SkyMiles Diamond Medallion customers already get the opportunity to go gate-to-gate in a Porsche. This new service - which will initially launch in Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, JFK and LaGuardia in New York, Seattle and Kentucky - will be complementary for Delta Private Jets Card members.

Despite the unquestionable coolness associated with the Porsche badge, being driven in the back of a Bentley or a Mercedes or even a Cadillac might seem a better fit for the jet-setting elite.

Porsche says that the partnership represents the harmony between the two brands. "That same alignment of superior performance and daily, like-minded application, with the customer at the centre,” said Andre Oosthuizen, VP of Marketing at Porsche Cars North America.

However, these connecting flight trips can be huge marketing opportunities for premium car brands.

For example, the actor and erstwhile star of "24," Kiefer Sutherland drives a Porsche Panamera. And when he appeared on "Top Gear" he revealed he bought it not because of its performance credentials but because he flew business class with Lufthansa and was driven to his connecting flight in a Panamera and became instantly smitten. "And I thought, ‘I've got to get me one of these'," he said.
