LONDON: According to Trackdays.co.uk, the iconic Shelby Mustang GT500 - nicknamed Eleanor from the movie Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), starring Nicolas Cage, has been voted as the most popular.

The website allows people to experience the silver screen action behind the wheel with the summer blockbuster in full swing.

“It’s great to see that the awesome Shelby Mustang GT500 Eleanor is crowned the celluloid champion and it appears that blockbusters like Gone in 60 Seconds and the incredible Fast and Furious films are inspiring people to experience these awesome motors for themselves," said TrackDays.co.uk operations manager Imran Malek.

“Indeed, while thousands of people head to the cinema this summer holiday to catch the latest blockbuster, thrill-seekers are making tracks to their closest race circuit to drive a movie car for real!”

Meanwhile, taking second place was the Ford Escort RS MK1 from the movie Fast & Furious 6 (2013) and is currently also being enjoyed at race circuits across the UK.

The final podium spot and the most modern car making up the top three is the Audi R8, loved by Tony Stark played by Robert Downey Jr in Iron Man and also loved by Brits putting the pedal to the metal.

Further down the leaderboard in sixth place is the ultra-stylish Aston Martin DB5, probably the most famous James Bond car which cemented its place in movie history when it starred alongside Sean Connery in Goldfinger (1964).

Meanwhile, two Japanese carmakers also made an appearance in the top 10 with fifth position going to the Nissan GT-R R35 which plays a starring role in the blockbuster Furious 7 (2015).

Going back to the start of The Fast and the Furious franchise, which began in 2001, it was the Toyota Supra that took 10th spot as the most popular.

“Going to the cinema is great fun but for some people simply watching the on-screen action just isn’t enough. They want to experience the thrills behind the wheel like their film idols and driving a movie car at a race circuit is the next closest thing,” added Imran.
