Exciting finale for Proton and DRB-Hicom University Creative Car Challenge

PEKAN: The Proton and DRB-Hicom University Creative Car Challenge (PD3C) grand finale saw the showcase of young talents, skills and creativity of students from over 20 local institutions of higher learning (IPTs) in automotive design and technical fields.

Held at the DRB-Hicom University of Automotive Malaysia, the inaugural challenge attracted close to 200 IPTs’ students who vied for top placements in three categories:

- Creative Car Challenge (13 teams)
- Car Modelling Challenge (9 teams)
- Design Battle (33 participants)

Invictus (Custom)


In the Creative Car Challenge, Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APIIT) emerged champion with Invictus, and walked away with the gold medal and cash prize of RM7,000.

Invictus is a concept car designed for the Z generation based on the Proton Preve, with futuristic design, sophisticated features and technological innovations such as intelligent touch controls, artificial intelligent system, integrated side view camera and smart door with face recognition system.

University Malaya took second place with Scrumptious Food Car (based on Proton Saga), followed by University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA) in third place with Deutro (based on Proton Suprima S) and University Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) in fourth place with Envysage (based on Proton Preve).

Meanwhile, in the Car Modelling Challenge, which required participants to design a 1:4-scale concept car model, the champion was University Sultan Zainal Abidin (UNISZA) with Tigres.

Second place went to Politeknik Ibrahim Sultan and third place to University Teknology MARA (UITM).

As for the Design Battle - a hand sketch and rendering of a car design, it was won by Mohamed Saiful Abdul Halim of UNISZA.

Second and third place winners went to Ahmad Zul Khairi Mohd Othman of UNISZA and Khoo Wern Sheung from APIIT, respectively.

PD3C was organised in collaboration with Proton as the main sponsor and Malaysia Design Council (MRM) as its technical partner.

It aims to inculcate a creative and innovative culture between automotive students and lecturers of various institutions, and also aspires to be the key platform to spur budding talents in the automotive industry.
