SEPANG: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has announced that the Formula 1 Petronas Malaysia Grand Prix will continue for the next three years.

"After negotiations with Formula 1 management we have succeeded in procuring the extension until 2018.

"With that Petronas has also agreed to be the title sponsor for the next three years," he told reporters after giving the winning trophy to Scuderia Ferrari driver Sebastian Vettel at the Sepang International Circuit Sunday.

Najib said there was a need to develop the race further as an event that would not just gain international spectators but also Malaysian fans to come.

"Other agencies and ministries including Tourism Malaysia must work together to make this an important event in the tourism calendar.

"We need to create more excitement and buzz to lure more spectators," he said adding that the Sepang International Circuit management has voiced some ideas but needed more support from other government departments in terms of event organising and promotions.
