'F1' plate bids may exceed RM1mil

SUNGAI BESAR: The Road Transport Department (JPJ) is expecting bids for the vehicle registration number "F1" to exceed RM1mil.

JPJ director-general Datuk Seri Ismail Ahmad said the bidding process would be done through open tender.

He said the bidding process for the new prefix of the number plate "F" would end on Tuesday, while the tender for the registration number starting with the alphabet "V" would begin on July 15 until the end of the month.

"So far, the most expensive vehicle registration number ever bought was "W1N" at RM746,000 and the "F1" number plate is expected to exceed RM1mil," he said after the 1Community 1RTD Programme at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Seri Makmur, here Saturday.

On May 19, Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Ab Aziz Kaprawi announced that vehicles in the Federal Territory of Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur would use the new registration numbers starting with the alphabet "F" and "V" respectively.

Ab Aziz said the registration number would be followed by a number from 1 to 9999.
