PARIS: Bugatti is recalling a 1930s model for active duty in the 21st Century.
We are referring to the 2-door Atlantic coupe, of course, which was characterised by a long bonnet and a flowing short back. Giving it a distinctive look at the time was a spine that ran front to back and on the front and rear fenders. The passenger compartment was moulded in the form of a tear drop.
Bugatti has just released a teaser image of the revived and modern Atlantic, showing the taillights illuminated by LEDs.
Going by the Atlantic of yore, the upcoming one will likely deviate from the current rear-engined layout and go with a front engine.
The car would probably be rear-wheel driven if Bugatti decides to use the Chiron's quad-turbo W16 8.0-litre engine.
The one-off Atlantic is expected to be created in a set of four, just like the original. The car was rumoured to be created at the behest of Volkswagen CEO Ferdinand Piëch, a Bugatti fan himself. The project cost is said to be almost €16 million (RM74mil).
We can expect to get the details on the Atlantic when it shows up at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show in a few days.
