First automated mechanical parking service opens in KL, 20 planned for next year

KUALA LUMPUR: A local company aims to invest RM1.8bil to build 20 automated mechanical parking system in the country next year.

M.A. Intelligent Parking (M) Sdn Bhd CEO Datuk Seri Dr Muhammad Isa Kasim said the parking system, which uses Japanese technology, would be the first of its kind in the country to help to tackle limited parking spaces, especially in cities and towns.

“We have two on-going projects at the Kuala Kedah Jetty and Dataran Medan Tuanku, Alor Star, worth RM84 million, which would be completed in two years," he told reporters at the launch of Malaysia's first such parking system here today.

Dr Muhammad also said the company was also in talks with Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, KL Sentral, hospitals and shopping malls around the country to build the parking system.

He said the system was the result of a collaboration with Nissei Build Kogyo Co Ltd, the biggest supplier of pre-fabricated building and multi-level mechanical and conventional car parking in Japan.

Muhammad said M.A. Intelligent Parking was the sole agent for the system in East Asia and the Middle East. It plans to venture into Indonesia, Cambodia and several Middle Eastern countries soon.

“We already have a plant in Ijok and will soon have another one in Pulau Indah, Selangor in an effort to reduce our costs,” he said. adding that the company aims to 90% local content.

Nissei Build Kogyo's global business and technology development director Nobu Tanida said its parking technology system, now in its eighth generation, was safe, fully secured and efficient.
