DETROIT: US carmaker Ford is planning a generation change with its compact SUV Kuga, with the new platform set to hit dealerships in early 2020. It will be the brand's first model with three different hybrid options, Ford says while unveiling the popular car model.

The vehicle is becoming noticeably bigger in its newest iteration, with the wheelbase growing by 2 centimetres, the length by 9 cm and the width by 4 cm. With this bulking up, the carmaker promises more space for passengers and luggage. In addition, the new Kuga will be up to 90 kilograms lighter and therefore more economical, Ford says.

For more CO2 savings, there's a completely new driving range with three different hybrid systems: Alongside the conventional petrol models, there are also mild, full and plug-in hybrids available.

In additional to the wide selection of alternative drivetrains, the Kuga will also strive to score highly with its assistance systems and infotainment, according to Ford.

Promised features include online navigation, a wi-fi hotspot and an app with which one can remotely access the onboard computer as well as certain vehicle functions.
