COLOGNE: Ford is set to sell the most powerful version of its Ranger pick-up in Europe from mid-2019, the US carmaker announced at the Gamescom trade fair in Cologne.

As with the Australian model released earlier this year, the Blue Oval is teasing the Raptor as being made for rugged, off-road driving, especially at higher speeds.

With a reinforced chassis and specialized suspension, the Ranger Raptor will be equally adept at handling rugged terrain or driving on smooth asphalt. The driver can also choose from six driving modes, including a sport mode, one for rocky terrain and the "Baja mode" for fast off-road driving.

The pick-up has a 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine with 213 horsepower, as well as a 10-gear, four-wheel-drive automatic transmission.

The underbody is equipped with a steel underrun protection, while the flared wheel arches will also provide an additional shield for the body.

The Ranger Raptor is also set to appear in the new Forza Horizon 4 racing game, also showcased at the Gamescom trade fair.

The Ranger Raptor, launched in Thailand in February, is selling there at almost 1.7 million baht (RM210,476).
