SHAH ALAM: UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT), distributor of Toyota and Lexus vehicles in Malaysia, has announced a Special Service Campaign (SSC) to replace the fuel pump in the Toyota Avanza.

This SSC is an expansion of an earlier campaign and other existing Toyota models are not affected.

Based on the information received from Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), 3,923 units of the Avanza manufactured from October 2017 to June 2019 and distributed by UMWT are involved in this recall.

The fuel pump in affected vehicles may stop operating.

Warning lights and messages may be displayed on the instrument panel and the engine will encounter power hesitation, possible stalling and be unable to restart.

UMWT will officially notify all owners of the affected vehicles and replace the fuel pump unit at no charge.

"The safety of our customers is always Toyota’s top priority," it said in a statement.

For further information, owners of affected cars may contact any authorised Toyota Service Centre or call the Toyota Freephone at 1800-8-TOYOTA (869682).
