Geely Jia Ji MPV photos released: future Proton Exora replacement?

By THOMAS HUONG | 15 November 2018

HANGZHOU (China): Geely Auto has released the first official images of its strategic global MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) named “Jia Ji (嘉际)” in Chinese.

Geely Auto says the launch of the new global MPV in early 2019 will be a step towards pushing the Chinese auto marque into international markets.

Also, there's a good chance that the Jia Ji seven-seater MPV might be re-skinned as a Proton car in the future, as the Geely Group has a 49.9 per cent stake in Malaysian automaker Proton Holdings Bhd.

Proton's first SUV (sport utility vehicle) is a re-skinned right-hand drive version of the popular Geely Boyue.

The Geely Jia Ji MPV will have three powertrain choices:

- 48V BSG mild hybrid (MHEV) with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine

- plug-in hybrid (PHEV) with a 1.5-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT)

- 1.8-litre turbocharged engine paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The MHEV version has 188hp, maximum torque of 300Nm and a combined city/highway fuel consumption of 5.9 litres per 100km.

The PHEV version with a 11.3kWh ultra-high capacity lithium battery has 255hp, maximum torque of 385Nm, and combined city/highway fuel consumption of just 1.6 litres per 100km.

The 1.8-litre turbocharged engine variant has 181hp and maximum torque of 300Nm.

The Geely Jia Ji MPV was designed at Geely’s Shanghai design studio, one of five global design studios that employ over 600 people across the world.

The Jia Ji adopts the Chinese auto marque's new “racing through space and time” design language shown across Geely’s latest products, the Bo Rui GE and Bin Rui.

Design elements include meteor head lamps, expanding cosmos grille, wide lower grille, streamlined coupe-style body, sculpted waistline, and floating roof.

In the middle of the full-vision dashboard is a 12.3 inch floating widescreen infotainment panel with black piano key buttons below.

The roof control console on the driver's upper right side comes with a motion activated ceiling light which improves safety by removing the need to search around for the light switch in the dark.

In addition to an electric shift lever, the central control panel also has a cup-holder which can heat or cool drinks.
