BANGKOK: The government will have the last say on whether Khazanah Nasional Berhad should sell its stake in PLUS Malaysia Berhad, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said today.

“Khazanah belongs to the government, so the last say will come from the government.

“If Khazanah can manage and settle (PLUS) loans, this will be good for the government and we will talk Khazanah.

Khazanah managing director Datuk Shahril Ridza Ridzuan had said Khazanah, which owns 51% of PLUS, has received multiple offers for the highway operator and turned all of them down.

Dr Mahathir who is here for the 35th Asean Summit was asked on Khazanah insisting it had no interest in selling Plus, the country’s biggest expressway toll firm.

The Prime Minister said if there were potential suitors who can take over PLUS loans it would be good for the government.
