Grab Malaysia helping e-hailing drivers cope with new regulations

PETALING JAYA: Grab Malaysia has announced that the company will be offering cash reimbursements to e-hailing drivers as they go through the process of applying for the Public Service Vehicle (PSV) Licence.

In a campaign called #BeratSamaDipikul, Grab said that it has partnered with clinics nationwide to set the cost of the required medical check up at RM20. The company stated that it will also reimburse the amount to any driver-partner or applicant regardless of which clinic they visit for the medical check-up.

Driver-partners will be provided with an initial RM50 subsidy for the PSV training at driving schools, with the company explaining that it is still working with selected driving centres in an attempt to further lower the cost. Currently, the training costs around RM120 to RM150 for the required six-hour session.

For driver-partners with cars that are more than three years old and thus required to get an inspection at Puspakom to achieve a minimum three-star Asean NCAP rating, Grab will fully subsidise the initial inspection cost of RM70.

The company stated that it will announce details about obtaining e-hailing insurance from Grab Panel insurers soon. The estimated cost for e-hailing insurance is RM400 per annum and it's a supplement to an applicant's private motor insurance. The e-hailing insurance will cover loss or damage to vehicle, liability to passengers as well as personal accident coverage while operating as an e-hailing driver-partner.

The new e-hailing regulations that require drivers to go through the process of getting a PSV Licence will come into effect on July 12. In a report by The Star, Transport Minister Anthony Loke said he believes that the new measures will help to create a more secure working environment for e-hailing drivers.

Grab said if a driver-partner still has not received the license by July 12, he or she will not be allowed to continue driving on any e-hailing platform, thus the company urged applicants to complete the PSV Licence application process by May 31. They can then file for the reimbursements by filling up this online form.

Driver-partners who already have a PSV Licence can get reimbursed for the cost of medical check-up, PSV training and Puspakom car inspection by providing the receipts to Grab.
