KUALA LUMPUR: The Mitsubishi Triton was the only pick-up model to grow year-on-year sales, with 5,762 units sold (+ 0.9%) for Financial Year 2019 (April 2019 to March 2020).

This was despite the pick-up truck segment sales declining by 21% during the same period of time.

From January to March 2020, the Triton consistently maintained its market share by 22% or more.

The Triton’s overall market share for FY2019 closed at 17% versus Mitsubishi Motors Malaysia's (MMM) target of 16%.

In FY2019, the Triton double cab was the top seller in the pick-up truck segment, in three states namely Melaka, Penang and Kedah.

“We are happy that the Mitsubishi Triton’s appeal in Malaysia remains strong. Throughout the year, the Triton has been recognised as the best-handling, the more fuel-efficient pick-up truck as well as the cheapest to maintain in terms of after sales service,” said Tomoyuki Shinnishi, CEO of MMM.

He added, “The automotive sector is likely to remain under pressure with the Covid-19 pandemic but it is imperative for the company to focus on the positives while planning for the growth of our businesses once the situation has improved. Rest assured, our team is working closely to implement extra precautionary measures, post-MCOto ensure that our sales outlets and service centres are a safe place for customers to shop and to service their cars with peace in mind.”
