PETALING JAYA: Hino Motors Sales (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd handed over a mini bus to a non-government (NGO) charitable organisation, The Community Chest, that will be donated to SJK (T) Kangar.

The handover ceremony took place at the Hino Malaysia headquarters here.

The Community Chest bought the 25-seat Hino XZU720L1 Mini Bus at a discount to be given to the school. The NGO was set up by the private sector in 2011 to promote and support education in Malaysia.

The gift was sparked by a request to the NGO from the Parent-Teacher Association of SJK (T) Kangar, which wanted a bus to transport pupils safely.

Hino Malaysia managing director Ken Iwamoto handed over the bus to Community Chest administrator Tan Kong Han. The Community Chest then presented a mock key of the bus to the association chairman, Sreetharan Selwaraju.

“The bus sponsorship is The Community Chest’s first movable asset contribution to a school," said Tan, adding that  SJK (T) Kangar was the only Tamil school in Perlis.

“Ensuring children’s safety on the road is part of our responsibility," said Iwamoto.
