PETALING JAYA: Honda has confirmed that a Takata driver airbag had ruptured in a May 27 crash incident where the driver had died.

No official cause of death has been determined.

The 2004 City was involved in an airbag recall but the current owner did not send it in for inspection despite numerous attempts by Honda Malaysia to reach the person.

Honda Malaysia said the passenger side airbag was also suspected to be faulty and had also ruptured in the incident.

The company said it is liaising with the authorities on the matter and would not provide details of the deceased out of respect for the family.

As at May 29, Honda Malaysia has fixed more than 224,000 units of Takata driver front airbag inflator which translates to 85% completion ratio. The total number of Takata driver and passenger front airbag inflator replacements completed is at more than 445,000 units or 75% completion ratio.
