Honda EX5 gets minor makeover

PETALING JAYA: Boon Siew Honda Sdn Bhd has unveiled a new livery for its legendary EX5. In its latest iteration, the best-selling Honda underbone now comes in four new colour schemes – including magenta accompanied by bold retro stripes.

Since its launch in 1987, more than two million units of EX5 has been sold as at April 2018. The EX5 is the first Honda underbone model in Malaysia in its class to be equipped with fuel injection, which naturally improves power and fuel efficiency.

Other than good fuel efficiency, more good news comes in the form of a decently-sized fuel tank, which at 4.3 litres - is enough to provide a range of more than 200km if ridden carefully.

Whatever the livery, the heart of the workhorse remains unchanged – an air-cooled single cylinder mill that is nearly 110cc, with power transmitted via a four-speed semi-automatic gearbox.

The refreshed bike is also equipped with a chrome muffler cover that not only enhances the look, but is also actually useful in providing added safety shielding from the hot exhaust pipe.

The new EX5 starts from RM5,150.54 (with GST) for the model with spoke rims, while the price goes up to RM5,404.94 for the one with cast alloy rims. Colour choices for the spoke-rim model are Pearl Magellanic Black and Pearl Nightfall Blue, while the cast rim model comes in Pearl Nightfall Blue, Candy Scintillated Red, and Space Magenta Metallic.

The new EX5 is warrantied for two-years or 20,000km, whichever comes first, while recommended prices exclude road tax and insurance.
