PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia says it will be working with the Ministry of Transport and Road Transport Department (JPJ) in urging more drivers affected by airbag recalls to come forward to replace them.

Once again, the car company said the matter was of great urgency as it involves occupant safety. The replacement is free and any cost related to it will be borne by Honda Malaysia. The current model line-up do not have the defective airbag inflators supplied by Takata Corporation.

Honda Malaysia said customers should replace defective Takata front airbag inflators as they could deploy with excessive force when activated. The airbag inflator casings might rupture which could cause injury or death to driver and passengers.

As at July 2, Honda Malaysia has completed more than 228,000 units of Takata driver front airbag inflator which translates to 87% completion ratio. The total number of Takata driver and passenger front airbag inflator replacements completed is at more than 465,000 units or 79% completion ratio.

It said it has deployed "Mobile Hubs" at selected shopping malls, hubs at Honda roadshows as well as at selected Petronas stations to help affected Honda owners change airbags.

It also said it has 100% stock availability for the driver and passenger front airbag inflators. Vehicle owners can check their vehicles' product recall status as shown below:
