SINGAPORE: The Honda NSX hybrid supercar was launched in Singapore today, making it the sole country in South-East Asia to do so.

The world’s first all-aluminium exotic car has a base price of S$888,999 (or RM2.7mil before COE) and is available in a choice of eight colours: Berlina Black, Source Silver Metallic, Casino White Pearl, 130R White, Nouvelle Blue Pearl, Nord Gray Metallic, Valencia Red Pearl and Curva Red. The two-seater NSX comes with a 5-year unlimited mileage and 10 years hybrid battery warranty offered by Kah Motor.

The car was unveiled by Formula 1 race driver Fernando Alonso from McLaren-Honda, together with Ted Klaus, NSX global development leader from Honda R&D Americas, Inc.

The NSX produces a combined peak output of 576hp and reaches speeds exceeding 300kph. Each NSX is guaranteed to be “track-ready” the moment it rolls off the assembly line at its Ohio factory in the United States. It is marketed in North America as the Acura NSX.

The car is designed based on a "total airflow management" concept to achieve superior levels of downforce, minimise drag and enhance grip, stability and balance.

The Sport Hybrid SH-AWD power unit consists of a twin-turbocharged mid-mounted V6 engine paired with an all-new 9-speed dual clutch transmission (9DCT) and Direct Drive Motor that supplements the engine with instant torque response.

The NSX features an all-new power unit from a clean sheet design with a longitudinally-mounted twin-turbo V6 engine mated to an all-new 9-speed DCT.

The Direct Drive Motor also operates as a generator, maintaining the state of charge of the hybrid batteries to consistently support driver demands. These systems, which comprise the rear power unit, are supplemented by the capabilities of the front-mounted Twin Motor Unit (TMU). Containing two electric motors that independently drive the left and right front wheels, the TMU provides “active AWD,” increasing forward acceleration and continuously varying torque—both positive and negative—supplied to the front wheels.

The NSX Integrated Dynamics System features four selectable dynamic modes—Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track—integrating all of the vehicle’s dynamic systems: steering, brakes, throttle, Vehicle Stability Assist, dampers and Sport Hybrid SH-AWD control systems, as well as providing a customizable auditory experience via new Intake Sound Control and Active Exhaust Valve technologies.

It features LED headlights, LED daytime running lights and LED taillights. The NSX is expected to achieve fuel economy of 10l/100km and a CO2 output of 228g/km.

The first production model of the NSX was sold at auction in the US earlier this year, fetching almost 10 times its book price at a cool US$1.2mil (around RM5mil).

The car featuring the coveted #001 VIN number was bought by Rick Hendrick, owner of the Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR team, with every dollar raised donated to charity.
