Honda Malaysia recalls City and Jazz

PETALING JAYA: Honda Malaysia is the latest car maker to recall its cars.

It announced today that the fourth-generation City (2014 model year) and third-generation Jazz (2015 model year) are being recalled for a "product update."

The recall involves 12,232 units of the City and 97 units of the Jazz. The defect is in the hydraulic pressure control software of the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

The recall would enable technicians to rectify the Powertrain Control Module through a CVT software update.

In describing the problem, Honda Malaysia said that the quick stepping in and releasing of the accelerator pedal at high speed will lead to high hydraulic pressure that will stress the drive pulley shaft and may cause the shaft to be broken, resulting in power loss during driving.

As of today, there were no crashes or injuries related to this issue reported in Malaysia.

Other current selling models are not affected by this product update.

Honda Malaysia will notify all affected customers by letter. Customers who receive the letter should send their vehicles to the nearest authorised Honda dealer for inspection. Any charges related to the product update will be borne by Honda Malaysia.

Honda owners can also check their vehicle’s product update status by calling Honda’s toll-free number 1-800-88-2020.
