LOS ANGELES: The next-generation Honda HR-V for the US will look different from the ones sold in Japan, Malaysia and other regions.

The second-generation B-segment SUV has been around for the past seven years and is ripe for a big change. The HR-V is marketed as the Vezel in Japan and China. In fact, the third-generation HR-V/Vezel will make its world premiere in Japan on Feb 18.

According to American Honda Motor Co., Inc, the new HR-V for North America will be designed to meet the particular needs of US customers and would arrive as a 2022 model. The automaker will release further details on the SUV closer to the US launch.

The HR-V shares the same platform as the Fit/Jazz.

Honda had said before that it is positioning the HR-V to replace the Fit/Jazz and do away with the Civic Coupe, and MT Accord after the 2020 model year, emphasing that the new HR-V would become the "new gateway model for the Honda brand, offering significant utility, performance, and value."
