Honda's Yoichiro Ueno heading back to Japan to drive future mobility

PETALING JAYA: The former Honda Malaysia boss, Yoichiro Ueno (pic), will be returning to Honda Motor in Japan to work on new business strategies and innovations in future mobility.

Ueno had served as Honda Malaysia chief executive officer and managing director for four years from January 2011. He was then posted to Honda India from 2016 for two years before the latest development.

His new appointment is part of the executive reshuffle in Honda’s Asia-Pacific operations announced last month. Honda Malaysia is now headed by Toichi Ishiyama.

During his relatively short stint in India, Ueno introduced the BR-V, Accord Hybrid, the new City and WR-V. He also laid the foundation for the launch of new models including the new Amaze, new CR-V and the comeback of the Civic.

Gaku Nakanishi will helm Honda India from April 1.

Like many other car makers, Honda is betting on electrification and AI in future car and motorcycle models. Among those showcased at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show were Honda Sports EV Concept:Honda Urban EV Concept, and Honda Fure-Mobi Concept as well as the CR-V HYbrid and Clarity PHEV.

Honda Fure-Mobi Concept also expands on the idea of personal mobility with such concepts as the Honda Fure-Mobi Concept, a two-seater the size of an electric wheelchair, that is designed traveling on walkways or indoor spaces.
