Hoonicorn V2 races to the clouds

DENVER: The race to the clouds of Pike's Peak at an altitude of 4,302m has seen some epic moments that have been accomplished within the shortest possible time, but with Ken Block at the helm of the Hoonicorn V2 (version 2), it's obviously going to be more hoon-like.

Forget Gymkhana, this time its Climbkhana as Ken's 1,400hp Hoonicorn - a twin-turbo all-wheel drive 1965 notchback Mustang performs burnouts, doughnuts and a series drift sequences to our collective heart's desires.

But this time around, it's gotten a touch of understated refinement as it looses it's massive hood ornament to better the car's peripheral view while wearing its custom carbon fibre body panels that hide a seam-welded and reinforced tubular-frame chassis

The Mustang - unlike the more commonly seen fastbacks, in question is a revision from three years ago when it first made an appearance in Gymkhana 7 with an extremely large shaker scoop to feed the naturally-aspirated 6.7-litre Roush Yates V8 engine with 845hp - yes it now has an additional 555hp.

To get the engine pumping to epic levels, a Motec M150 ECU was remapped to manage the two Garrett GTX3584RS turbocharger units that don't have an intercooler, since methanol fuel is used - yes the same stuff IndyCar racecars use that can burn colourless, have no visible smoke and their fumes are rather toxic.

The Hoonicorn V2 rolls on 18.0-inch Fifteen52 R40 wheels that wear custom compound R888R from Toyo tyres while a F1-style pushrod suspension system has been employed.
