GENEVA: Hyundai Motor will be showcasing its latest IONIQ lineup in three variants, namely the Hybrid, Plug-in and Electric that are meant to offer low to zero-emission mobility more accessible to the masses.

The IONIQ Hybrid and Plug-in both feature the new Kappa 1.6-litre Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) four-cylinder engine with a thermal efficiency of 40%, providing 105PS and 147Nm of torque and mated to a six-speed double clutch transmission.

The electric motor allows for pure electric driving by delivering 32kW (43.5PS) and 170Nm of torque, while powered by a lithium-ion-polymer battery with 1.56kWh capacity positioned under the rear seats.

Total system output from the 1.6-litre GDI engine and electric motor has been rated at 103.6kW (141PS) and up to 265Nm of torque – allowing it to reach a top speed of 185kph with a low targeted CO2 emissions of 79g/km (combined).

As for the IONIQ Plug-in, pure electric range has been increased to over 50km thanks to a larger 8.9kWh lithium-ion polymer battery and a 45kW (61 PS) electric motor that supplements the 1.6 GDI Kappa engine with targeted CO2 emissions as low as 32g/km.

With the pure electric mobility that is the IONIQ Electric, it gets a 28kWh lithium-ion-polymer battery that should provide a range of over 250km with the aid of a 295Nm electric motor with a maximum output of 88kW (120 PS) – allowing it reach a top speed of 165kph.

While the chassis receives a rear multi-link suspension for enhanced driving dynamics, the IONIQ line-up provides an enhanced customer experience inside with features such as Android Auto, Apple Car Play as well as Tom Tom live services and wireless smartphone charging.

Furthermore, the driving experience becomes digital through the seven-inch TFT instrument cluster displaying all key driver information.

Safety includes Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist System, Blind Spot Detection, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Smart Cruise Control.

All IONIQ variants have a drag coefficient (Cd) that’s been rated at 0.24Cd while the chassis receives a rear multi-link suspension for enhanced driving dynamics.

The Hyundai IONIQ line-up make their international debut during the Geneva Motor Show on Mar 1.

“Now, with the launch of our first dedicated model, we are taking the lead as the only car manufacturer with hybrid, electric, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles in production,” said Hyundai Motor Europe chief operating officer at Thomas A. Schmid.

Live streaming of the press conference at the show will be available at: https://livestream.com/HyundaiEurope/GIMS2016 and broadcasting of the show starts at 10:15 CET.
