LONDON: Hyundai Motor is partnering with three other parties to accelerate the development of Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and work together to conduct test flights.

Hyundai signed a memorandum of understanding on Sept 18 with Incheon International Airport Corp, Hyundai Engineering & Construction Co. and KT Corp to commercialise UAM by 2028

The Korean government had announced in June the Korean UAM Roadmap, outlining steps needed to commercialise UAM.

Hyundai Motor and its partners would follow the roadmap that includes jointly studying the construction and operation of airports for UAMs.

Hyundai said it would develop the UAM business and securing business cases while Incheon airport team would work to establish the infrastructure and study feasibility of using UAM as airport shuttles.

Hyundai Construction will use its expertise to build vertiports as well as the transit hub that would connect UAM to other public transportations. KT would set up the communications infrastructure and make business cases for UAM as a mobility service.

All four parties would share their expertise and jointly work on test flights.

At CES 2020 in January, Hyundai unveiled its first concept Urban Air Mobility vehicle equipped with eVTOL.
