Hyundai confirms IONIQ early 2016 debut

SEOUL: Due for launch in early 2016, Hyundai is starting to hype up its innovative, alternative-fuel compact vehicle with class-leading aerodynamic performance - the all-new IONIQ.

The Korean carmaker has confirmed that the IONIQ will be the world’s first car to offer a choice of three efficient and ultra-low-emission powertrains of a full electric, plug-in petrol and electric hybrid, or petrol and electric hybrid.

Reveicing a sleek, coupe-like silhouette and numerous eye-catching details, the IONIQ is to be receive its world premier in Seoul, Korea, followed by the Geneva International Motor Show in March 2016 and the New York Auto Show.

The company says the IONIQ will deliver a fun and responsive driving experience, while also meeting the needs of those wishing to reduce the impact their motoring has on the environment.

The simple, carefully wrought contours minimize wind resistance and assist the efficient management of airflow around the exterior.

Hyundai's design themes such as the signature hexagonal grille, gets topped off by a gloss-black element, which extends outwards to meet the distinctive new headlamps that feature integrated ‘C’-position lights.

Inside the IONIQ, it's a clutter-free environment to ensure it has the most efficient use of interior space, while a clear, logical approach has been applied to the layout of control functions.

The IONIQ’s name references elements of its creation, starting with "ion", which is an electrically-charged atom that links to the car’s clever combination of electrified powertrains.

The second part of the name refers to the unique offering it brings to the Hyundai range, demonstrating the brand’s environmental commitment and willingness to maximize choice for its customers.

Finally, the Q is depicted in the car’s logo as a visual breakthrough, acknowledging the fresh new approach of this advanced, low-emission model.
